Antaike's output report on refined lead in August 2020
Beijing, Sep. 10 (Antaike)--Antaike’s lead output statistic covers 37 primary lead companies and 34 secondary lead companies, concerning 3.82Mt of primary lead capacity and 4.18Mtpy of secondary lead capacity (5.98Mt of dismantling capacity of waste batteries and 420kt of scrap lead processing capacity). They produced 423kt of refined lead in August, up 4.0% year on year and 8kt month on month, of which primary lead output was 201kt, down 3.4% year on year but up 2.0% month on month, secondary lead output was 222kt, up 11.9% year on year and 1.8% month on month, accounting for 52.4% of the total refined lead output. Refined lead output was 218kt after correction, an increase of 6.9% year on year.
Total refined lead was 2.989Mt in Jan-Aug, down 2.9% year on year, of which primary lead output increased 2.5% but secondary lead output fell 8.8% on a yearly basis, and the proportion of secondary lead was 44.8%.
In August, TC was still high in August. Profit from silver and bismuth increased, therefore smelters lift output, what’s more, some smelters resumed production from maintenance, therefore output from Hunan, Yunnan, Gansu, Shaanxi and Jiangxi increased at different extent. But output from Henan, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai and Guangxi declined as some smelters took maintenance. Primary lead output just increased 4kt month on month, lower than expectation. Secondary lead output increased slightly as companies in Henan lift utilization rates, but some failed to achieve normal production due to maintenance and raw materials disturbing.
In September, secondary lead production will decline, especially in Henan, Anhui and Jiangxi. Primary lead output will resume to normal level: output deduction is from Qinghai, Liaoning and Hunan, and output increment is from Henan and Inner Mongolia.
Antaike estimates refined lead output will decrease 5kt month on month in September.
Major primary lead smelters had 8.3kt of inventory in early September, up 1.3kt compared with early August.
